IdeS (Immunoglobulin-degrading enzyme) is an engineered recombinant protease overexpressed in Escherichia coli.
IdeS Protease specifically cleaves IgG molecules below the hinge region to yield F(ab’)2 and Fc fragments.

Source: An E. coli strain that carries the IdeS gene from Streptococcus pyogenes.
